About Local Nature Recovery Strategies
Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) are locally led plans mandated by the Environment Act 2021. They aim to recover nature and improve the environment by focusing on actions with the greatest impact on nature recovery. The Warwickshire LNRS in collaboration with the other 48 LNRS will cover the whole of England, to become a Nature Recovery Network across the country.

As with the rest of the UK, nature has become severely depleted in Warwickshire. The State of Nature (2023) report indicates that one in six species are at risk of extinction in Britain, and since 1970, wildlife has declined by 19% on average.
​
Yet nature is essential to maintain a healthy environment (e.g. air, soil and water quality) and provide us with food (e.g. pollination), and many of us value close connections with nature for well-being. Plants are important for capturing carbon and mitigating climate change. Nature-based approaches to water management are increasingly implemented and valued.
​The importance of nature has been recognised nationally and internationally and in England each county or equivalent (Responsible Authority) has been charged by Government with developing a Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

In Warwickshire, this is being developed by Warwickshire County Council, who are supported by the Warwickshire Coventry and Solihull Local Nature Partnership in promoting and enacting the strategy.
The Warwickshire LNRS is built upon a set of Overarching Themes designed to guide collective efforts where everyone can take actions to conserve and enhance the natural environment and deliver the LNP Vision.​​

Our approach focuses on conserving, creating and enhancing habitats and connecting them together to ensure their resilience. Together, all the LNRSs around the country will create a national approach to recovering nature.​

The LNRS consultation ran throughout September via Warwickshire County Council. The consultation is now closed and results are being analysed. Thank you to all who took part.​​
